Afghanistan Earthquake

Standing With Families Through the Worst Disaster in Years

Back-to-back earthquakes have shaken Afghanistan, beginning a wave of hardship caused by a 6.2-magnitude quake that has only deepened with five powerful aftershocks. Families already grieving the country’s worst natural disaster in years are now left in fear and mourning once again.. More than 2,200 lives lost, over 84,000 individuals have been affected and entire villages have been reduced to rubble. Mothers, fathers and children are now left scrambling for food, shelter, and urgent medical care. The International Rescue Committee warns the crisis is escalating by the hour as families cling to survival with almost nothing left.

The Situation on the Ground:

HDF teams are already on the ground in Afghanistan, side by side with families in the hardest-hit villages. Our staff walked hours through dangerous terrain to reach survivors, working hand in hand with trusted local partners to bring urgent relief where it is needed most.

Our response is focused on restoring life and dignity:

  • Doctors providing emergency care to the wounded and injured
  • Hot meals reaching families who have gone days without food
  • Clean water delivered to communities cut off from safe access
  • Emergency shelter for families left in the open with nothing
  • Monthly food rations prepared to sustain households beyond the initial shock
  • Careful field assessments to ensure recovery is guided with transparency and lasting impact

HDF’s mission is to stand with the people of Afghanistan through this crisis and beyond. Your generosity ensures they are not left to face this tragedy alone, but with the strength of a community that refuses to give up on them.
