Despite economic progress, significant portions of the population remain impoverished and vulnerable. The country also hosts a large number of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, which places additional strain on its resources and infrastructure.

Over 5.3 million people in Bangladesh, including 2.8 million children, require humanitarian assistance. The country is frequently affected by natural disasters, which displace communities and destroy livelihoods, exacerbating existing vulnerabilities.

Food Insecurity

Approximately 3.1 million people are facing acute food insecurity. The agricultural sector, a primary source of livelihood for many, is heavily impacted by climate change and natural disasters, leading to food shortages and malnutrition.

Healthcare

The healthcare system in Bangladesh faces significant challenges, particularly in rural and disaster-affected areas. Many health facilities lack essential supplies and trained personnel. Access to quality healthcare is limited, especially for marginalized communities and refugees.

Water and Sanitation

Around 22 million people lack access to safe drinking water, and 48 million lack adequate sanitation facilities. Frequent flooding and the contamination of water sources exacerbate the water crisis, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases and poor hygiene practices.

Economic Impact

Despite economic growth, over 21% of the population lives below the poverty line. Unemployment and underemployment remain significant issues, particularly among youth and rural populations. The economic pressures are further heightened by the presence of nearly one million Rohingya refugees, who require substantial humanitarian support.
