Fitra, Fidyah, & Kaffarah
Overview
At HDF, we believe in making it easy for our community to fulfill their religious obligations while supporting those in need.
What is Fidyah?
Fidyah is a form of charitable compensation in Islam for those who are unable to fast during Ramadan due to valid reasons such as illness, pregnancy, or old age. It also applies to individuals who miss or break their fast due to unavoidable circumstances, such as travel.
Instead of fasting, one must provide food to a person in need for each missed day. The standard fidyah amount is the cost of one meal per day per person, which can be given as food or its equivalent in money. Your fidyah donation through HDF ensures that meals reach those who need them most.
What is Kaffarah?
Kaffarah is an expiation required for certain violations of religious duties, such as intentionally breaking a fast during Ramadan without a valid excuse or breaking an oath. It serves as a means of seeking forgiveness from Allah (SWT) and making amends by feeding the less fortunate.
Depending on the type of violation, kaffarah may require feeding a specific number of people, fasting for an extended period, or making a financial contribution to support those in need.
Fulfill Your Obligation with HDF

What is Fitra?
Fitra, also known as Zakat al-Fitr, is a required charitable donation given at the end of Ramadan, before the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers. It serves as an expression of gratitude to Allah (SWT) for the ability to observe Ramadan and as a means of purifying one’s fasts.
The estimated cost is $12 per person in each household.
Fast 60 consecutive days OR Feed 60 needy people per missed fast.
Estimated cost: $600 per missed fast.
Transform Lives
Your Zakat fuels change. At HDF, all of our programs are zakat-eligible. That means your zakat can bring nutritious meals to families, sponsor an orphan, provide a well, and more!
