HDF Team Visits Amputee Child in Gaza

This week, we share the story of Mohammed Saeed, a young boy from Gaza whose strength and resilience shine despite unimaginable hardships. For Mohammed and many children like him, life under occupation is a constant battle, especially for those with disabilities. The challenges are endless: limited access to mobility aids, inadequate living conditions, and the emotional toll of displacement. Our on-the-ground team recently visited Mohammed and his family, bringing them a glimmer of hope and much-needed relief while also learning of the daily struggles faced by families like theirs.

A Family’s Struggle in the Face of War

Displaced from their home due to the war, Mohammed’s family now lives in a tent that is barely suitable for living. Mohammed, who lost both his legs and his right hand in the conflict, relies entirely on his mother for mobility. With no wheelchair, she has had to carry him on her shoulders, even during their strenuous escape. “Our house was destroyed, and we were forced to leave everything behind, including Mohammed’s wheelchair,” she explained. “Now we live in a tent that is not fit for living, and even basic tasks like finding a bathroom are a struggle.” Mohammed’s mother shared how the lack of compassion from occupation forces has exacerbated their challenges, particularly for children with disabilities like her son. “Moreover, the occupation showed us no mercy. They show no mercy for the disabled.” Her voice was filled with both sorrow and resilience as she recounted their journey to safety.

A Moment of Joy

When our team on the ground arrived, they brought toys, clothes, and food baskets for Mohammed and his family. These simple items transformed their day, bringing a happy relief to Mohammed’s life. In the video, Mohammed’s face lights up as he plays with the toys. His mother, moved by the kindness, expressed heartfelt gratitude: “We thank the HDF for supporting our son Mohammed and for the joy they brought to his heart today. May God bless them and reward them abundantly.” The visit was a reminder of how small acts of kindness can bring an immense amount of comfort to families enduring such difficult challenges.

Becoming Involved

Mohammed’s story is not unique. Thousands of families in Gaza face similar struggles, facing displacement and the ongoing effects of occupation. For children with disabilities, the barriers are even greater, things like access to basic necessities like food, mobility aids, and safe housing is often out of reach.

Our team is dedicated to raising awareness and providing direct support to children like Mohammed whose stories often get overlooked. Children with disabilities need more than material support; they need hope and the assurance that they are not forgotten. Together, we can bring hope and relief to those who need it most.
