They left with what they could carry. Let's welcome them with what they need.

Families are fleeing Yemen’s western coast for the second and third time. Some are now crossing the sea. Your support can meet them on the other side with food, water, shelter and dignity.

The humanitarian reality

For many families, this is not the first time they have been uprooted.

After years of conflict and humanitarian crisis, thousands of families are once again being forced from their homes as fighting intensifies across parts of the country. Displacement is concentrated in Taiz, Lahj and Al Hodeidah, with Taiz accounting for nearly 56,000 displaced people in the latest reporting.

IOM reports that some families have now been displaced for the second or third time. They are leaving behind homes, livelihoods, possessions and communities they may have already been forced to rebuild once before.

And now, the crisis is pushing families beyond Yemen’s borders.
Welcome A Family Today
Across the sea

More than 2,400 people have reached Djibouti's northern shore.

Arrivals are landing at scattered points along the coast near Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria. In one 24 hour period, roughly 1,400 people arrived. Some families made the crossing after their boats ran out of fuel and required rescue at sea.

These families are not arriving after an ordinary journey. They are arriving after fleeing violence, traveling by sea and leaving behind almost everything they know. For many children, the journey itself brings added dangers: dehydration, extreme heat and no safe drinking water.

When they finally reach shore, their immediate needs are enormous.

Welcome A Family Today
The journey

Families who had homes. Children who had schools. Parents who had livelihoods.

They are arriving somewhere new because they had no safe choice left. Djibouti’s government, IOM and UN partners are already mobilizing to receive them. HDF wants to help strengthen that welcome.

Welcome A Family Today
  • They fled
Home was no longer safe. Thousands of families are being displaced by escalating violence, many for the second or third time.
  • They crossed
Some are now crossing the sea. More than 2,400 people have reached Djibouti, with roughly 1,400 arriving in a single 24 hour period.
  • They arrived
But reaching safety is only the beginning. Families arrive needing food, water, shelter, medical care and basic necessities.
  • We welcome
This is where HDF steps in. We want to meet families with compassion, practical assistance and dignity.

Emergency assistance, based on verified needs and access.

HDF is working to mobilize emergency assistance for vulnerable families affected by this rapidly escalating crisis: for families displaced inside Yemen and, where operationally feasible and through appropriate coordination, families arriving in Djibouti.

Food

Emergency food assistance for families who fled without adequate provisions.

Clean Water

Safe drinking water and essential water support for displaced communities and new arrivals.

Shelter & Essentials

Emergency shelter and basic necessities for families who have lost access to their homes.

Medical Support

Assistance for urgent healthcare needs among vulnerable displaced families.

Women & Children

Prioritizing families and individuals facing heightened vulnerability during displacement.

After everything they have lost, the first thing they meet should not be another closed door.

It should be welcome. Your Sadaqah moves with the families, from the roads out of Taiz to the shore at Obock.
