Reaching Egypt’s Forgotten Families
Egypt faces a growing humanitarian crisis driven by economic instability, a strained refugee population, and ongoing challenges in accessing basic services. As one of the largest hosts of refugees in the region, Egypt has opened its doors to individuals fleeing conflict and persecution from neighboring countries, including Syria, Sudan, South Sudan, Palestine and Ethiopia. However, many refugee families face daily struggles to access shelter, healthcare, education, and work opportunities. Additionally, Egypt’s economic hardships have left vulnerable communities grappling with rising inflation, food insecurity, and reduced access to essential resources.
Rural populations, women, and children are among the hardest hit, facing barriers to education and healthcare while trying to survive on limited incomes. Despite these challenges, the resilience of Egypt’s people is inspiring, but they need immediate and sustained support to build a brighter future
Situation On The Ground
Refugee Struggles: With hundreds of thousands of refugees seeking safety in Egypt, overcrowded urban centers and camps strain resources, leaving families without proper shelter, food, or access to essential services.
Economic Hardship: Rising inflation and soaring food prices have made it increasingly difficult for vulnerable families to afford even basic necessities, pushing many into deeper poverty.
Healthcare Barriers: Egypt’s healthcare system is under strain, leaving both local communities and refugees without adequate access to medical care. Women and children face particular risks, with limited maternal care and child health services.
Education Challenges: Refugee children and those in rural communities lack access to schools or learning materials, leaving them without the opportunity to break free from the cycle of poverty.
