War And Hunger In Lebanon

Lebanon is under severe distress due to ongoing hostilities. As of July 31st, 2024, intense offensives have penetrated up to 62 miles from the southern border. The destruction of water, electricity, and telecommunications infrastructure, as well as roads in southern Lebanon, is extensive. Tragically, maintenance and repair workers have been killed and injured while trying to restore essential services. Medics and first responders are also at risk as they strive to aid the area’s remaining residents.

The Human Development Fund (HDF) has supported over one million refugees in Turkey and Jordan. Lebanon is facing an unprecedented humanitarian and economic crisis, affecting millions of refugees and vulnerable people across the country. Basic necessities like food have become a struggle for families, many of whom have lost their jobs or are unable to meet the skyrocketing cost of living. This is a critical moment where we must step in to help.

Human Development Fund (HDF) is launching an emergency relief campaign to provide food parcels to families in desperate need. These food parcels will alleviate hunger and bring some relief to the financial burdens they face every day

Situation On The Ground

Lebanon is facing a devastating overlapping conflict and economic collapse. Ongoing hostilities have destroyed vital infrastructure cutting off electricity, water, and communication lines in the south. Roads are unsafe, and aid workers, medics, and civilians remain at constant risk.

Over 2 million people are in urgent need. Soaring inflation and unemployment have made food unaffordable for countless families. Refugees and vulnerable Lebanese communities alike are struggling to survive, with limited access to essential services like food, healthcare and education.

Our Response

HDF is responding to address the urgent needs of families and refugees across Lebanon. Our response includes:

Emergency Food Parcels: Distributing food parcels to families facing severe hunger, with a focus on vulnerable communities most affected by conflict and economic instability.

Support for Refugees and Host Communities: Expanding aid to both refugee populations and under-resourced Lebanese families, ensuring assistance reaches those living in extreme poverty and displacement.

Health and Safety Advocacy: Coordinating with local partners to advocate for safe access for medics and humanitarian workers, and supporting efforts to protect civilians during ongoing hostilities.

In this critical time, HDF stands with the people of Lebanon, working to ease their suffering, restore dignity, and offer hope through immediate relief and long-term support.
