Rebuilding Hope In Iraq
Iraq as a nation is still reeling from years of conflict and displacement, where millions of families struggle to rebuild their lives amidst unimaginable challenges. For those displaced by the violence of past years, home is now a crowded camp or a makeshift shelter with little access to food, water, or education.
Refugees who sought out safety in Iraq face similarly harsh conditions, living with limited opportunities and uncertain futures. Along with these struggles is a fragile healthcare system that cannot meet the needs of vulnerable families, leaving mothers, children, and the sick without vital care.
Despite the hardships, the resilience of the Iraqi people shines brightly, but their journey toward stability and hope is far from over. They need support now more than ever to rebuild their lives and reclaim their futures.
Situation On The Ground
Ongoing Displacement: Millions of Iraqis were uprooted during the conflict and while many have returned home, over 1.1 million remain displaced. For these families, life in camps or temporary shelters comes with daily struggles to access food, water, education, and the documentation needed to rebuild their lives.
Refugees in Need: Iraq is also home to hundreds of thousands of refugees from Syria and other neighboring countries. These families often live in camps, where opportunities for work are limited, and access to education and healthcare is also limited. Children are especially vulnerable, as their futures hang in the balance without adequate resources and support.
Strained Healthcare System: Iraq’s health system is overwhelmed, with a lack of medical staff, critical supplies, and proper facilities. This leaves communities without access to maternal care, mental health services, and treatment for both chronic and infectious diseases, further deepening the humanitarian crisis.

Our Response
HDF is working on the ground in Iraq to provide critical support to displaced families, refugees, and vulnerable communities. Our programs are designed to address:
Shelter and Stability: We work to provide safe and dignified shelter to displaced families and refugees living in overcrowded camps or makeshift housing, making sure they have a secure place to call home.
Education for the Future: We support education programs for displaced and refugee children, ensuring they can continue learning despite their circumstances. Access to education gives children the opportunity to dream and work toward a brighter future.
Healthcare Access: By addressing shortages in medical supplies and services, we help families have access to critical healthcare, including maternal and child health, mental health support, and treatment for chronic and infectious diseases.
Water and Sanitation: We are providing access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and promoting healthier living conditions in camps and underserved families.
