From Crisis To Recovery
Indonesia is no stranger to natural disasters and humanitarian challenges. From devastating earthquakes and tsunamis to recurring floods and volcanic eruptions, communities across the country are constantly at risk of displacement and loss. Rising sea levels, driven by climate change, pose an ongoing threat to coastal areas, while rural and marginalized communities struggle to access basic services like education, healthcare, and clean water.
In urban areas, poverty and overcrowding make survival a daily battle for many families. Despite the resilience and strength of its people, the ongoing challenges in Indonesia require immediate and sustained support to ensure that families can rebuild their lives and secure a brighter future.
Situation On The Ground
Natural Disasters: Indonesia is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world. Earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, and volcanic eruptions have displaced thousands of families, destroyed homes, and disrupted livelihoods. Many communities live in constant fear of the next disaster, with little to no resources to prepare or recover.
Climate Change Impact: Rising sea levels and worsening floods are threatening Indonesia’s coastal communities. Entire villages face the risk of submersion, forcing families to leave their homes and livelihoods behind.
Health Challenges: Access to healthcare remains limited in rural and disaster-affected areas. Families face shortages of essential medical supplies, clean water, and sanitation, increasing the risk of diseases.
Educational Barriers: Many children in disaster-prone and rural areas struggle to access quality education due to damaged schools, lack of resources, and displacement. Without education, they are left with limited opportunities for a better future.
Urban Poverty: Overcrowded urban areas are home to some of Indonesia’s most vulnerable families. Many live in poorly constructed shelters, with limited access to clean water, food, and sanitation, leaving them exposed to health and safety risks.
