Sudan In Ongoing Crisis

Sudan has faced decades of conflict and political instability, resulting in widespread humanitarian needs. The recent political turmoil, economic crisis, and natural disasters such as floods have further exacerbated the situation.

The country is grappling with severe food insecurity, a fragile healthcare system, and a high number of displaced persons. The humanitarian crisis in Sudan is complex, requiring sustained efforts to address both immediate needs and long-term challenges.

Delivering Hope, Restoring Dignity, Rebuilding Health Systems

In 2025, Sudan faced one of the most severe and rapidly escalating humanitarian crises in the world:

  • Over 10 million people displaced
  • Widespread collapse of healthcare systems
  • Intensifying food insecurity and water scarcity
  • Entire communities uprooted due to conflict

In response, the Human Development Fund (HDF) expanded its presence and delivered an integrated, multi-sector humanitarian response that reached 366,770 people across Sudan.

Sudan Shallow Well

Provide safe, accessible, and affordable water in Sudan through the construction of hand-dug wells. The wells are constructed to 40–65 feet. They are designed for IDPs, refugees, and other vulnerable communities in conflict-affected regions, where the ongoing civil war has disrupted basic services and made water extremely scarce. Each well is equipped with a hand pump and can sustainably serve around 150 households daily, ensuring reliable access to clean water, protecting health, and supporting community resilience amidst crisis.

Sudan Borehole

This borehole well for $50k reaches 350-450 feet deep — far beyond typical shallow wells — and is equipped with a 15 HP submersible pump and a 5,000-liter storage tank. This project in the Khartoum State has a lifespan of up to 20 years, built to last generations. It is designed for arid, semi-arid regions, IDPs, refugees, and other vulnerable communities in areas facing potential civil disruptions and impending drought, where access to water is increasingly scarce, and will serve approximately 1,000 households daily.

Serve Abroad with Horizons for Humanity!

Looking to make your impact felt beyond borders?
HDF’s Horizons for Humanity service trips are immersive, weeklong experiences where volunteers come face to face with the realities of poverty, displacement, and resilience in countries like Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, and Egypt.

Participants will engage in hands on humanitarian projects, from food and water distribution to supporting children with disabilities and helping orphans. These trips are designed not just to serve, but to educate, connect, and inspire lasting advocacy.

This form lets us know you’re interested in joining a future trip. Once received, we’ll follow up with more information, including upcoming opportunities and the next steps.

No prior experience is required, just a heart for service and a willingness to learn.
