Hope Beyond The Rubble
Syria is enduring one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with its prolonged conflict creating the largest forcibly displaced population globally. Over 90% of Syrians live in poverty, and more than 11 million people lack basic resources, with children making up 60% of those affected. The collapse of the healthcare system has left countless individuals without medical care, while only 46% of humanitarian needs are currently being met despite ongoing international aid.
The worsening economic crisis is forcing families into desperate coping strategies, with female-headed households disproportionately impacted and rising rates of gender-based violence and child exploitation. In response, the Human Development Fund has provided critical support to over 1 million Syrian refugees in Turkey and Jordan, helping to restore hope and stability in the face of overwhelming challenges. Today, Syria is no longer defined by the echoes of conflict. It’s a nation rising from the ashes, its people determined to rebuild homes, schools, and lives.
Situation On The Ground
Extreme Weather and Insecure Shelter: Syrian refugees in makeshift camps across Jordan face harsh living conditions, with extreme weather, including freezing winters, making survival a daily struggle. Many families live in tents or poorly constructed shelters that offer little protection from the elements, leaving them vulnerable to cold, heat, and heavy rains.
Water and Sanitation Challenges: Access to clean drinking water remains a critical issue in remote refugee camps. Many families rely on unsafe water sources, leading to the spread of waterborne diseases and adding to the daily hardships of displaced families.
Education Crisis for Children: With limited access to formal education, Syrian refugee children face significant barriers to learning. Many have been out of school for years, leaving them ill-prepared for the future and without the stability that education provides.
Food Insecurity: Rising food prices and disrupted supply chains have left many displaced families without adequate nutrition. Access to staple items like rice, lentils, and pasta is becoming increasingly difficult, exacerbating hunger and malnutrition in refugee communities.
Vulnerable Orphaned Children: Thousands of Syrian children have been orphaned due to the ongoing conflict, leaving them without family support and at heightened risk of exploitation. These children require urgent care and protection to ensure their safety and well-being.

Our Response
HDF is dedicated to providing life-saving support to Syrian refugees and displaced families, our efforts addressing their immediate needs:
Shelter and Safety: Providing secure and insulated housing to protect families from extreme weather conditions and give them a safe and dignified place to live.
Education: In Syria, your support helped establish two essential education centers — one for women and one for children. Over 100 women accessed literacy, tech training, and mental health support, while 300+ children received foundational and Quranic education in a safe, empowering space.
Food Assistance: Delivering essential food supplies to displaced families to combat hunger and malnutrition, meaning they now have access to basic nutritional staples to sustain them.
Water and Sanitation: Improving access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases and promote healthier living conditions.
Support for Vulnerable Children: Providing essential care and resources for orphaned children, making sure they receive protection, education, and the emotional support needed to thrive.
Winter Relief: Distributing winter supplies such as clothing, blankets, and heating resources to help families survive the coldest months with warmth, safety, and dignity.
