Food and drink duas

Before and after eating, for a host, for the one who gives you drink, and at slaughter.

Invocations for breaking the fast

Dua 1ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ العُرُوقُ، وَثَبَتَ الْأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُThe thirst has gone and the veins are quenched, and reward is confirmed, if Allah wills.Dua 2اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ الَّتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَنْ تَغْفِرَ لِيO Allah, I ask You by Your mercy which envelopes all things, that You forgive me.

Invocations before eating

Dua 1بِسْمِ اللَّهِIn the name of Allah.Dua 2اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَأَطْعِمْنَا خَيْراً مِنْهُO Allah, bless it for us and provide us with food better than it.

Invocations after eating

Dua 1الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا، وَرَزَقَنِيهِ، مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلاَ قُوَّةٍAll praise is for Allah who fed me this and provided it for me without any might nor power from myself.Dua 2الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ حَمْداً كَثِيراً طَيِّباً مُبَارَكاً فِيهِ، غَيْرَ [مَكْفِيٍّ وَلاَ ] مُوَدَّعٍ، وَلاَ مُسْ…Allah be praised with an abundant beautiful blessed praise, a never-ending praise, a praise which we will never bid farewell to and an indispensable praise, He is our Lo…

A dinner guest's invocation for his host

Readاللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُمْ فِيمَا رَزَقْتَهُم، وَاغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَارْحَمْهُمْO Allah, bless for them, that which You have provided them, forgive them and have mercy upon them.

Invocation for someone who gives you drink or offers it to you

Readاللَّهُمَّ أَطْعِمْ مَنْ أَطْعَمَنِي، وَاسْقِ مَنْ سَقَانِيO Allah, feed him who fed me, and provide with drink him who provided me with drink.

Invocation for a family who invites you to break your fast with them

Readأَفْطَرَ عِنْدَكُمُ الصَّائِمُونَ، وَأَكَلَ طَعَامَكُمُ الْأَبْرَارُ، وَصَلَّتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَلاَئِكَةُMay the fasting break their fast in your home, and may the dutiful and pious eat your food, and may the angles send prayers upon you.

Invocation for someone who offers you food when you are fasting, which you decline

Read((إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيُجِبْ، فَإِنْ كَانَ صَائِماً فَلْيُصَلِّ، وَإِنْ كَانَ مُفْطِراً فَلْيَطْعَمْ)…GuidanceIf you are invited to a meal, accept the invitation. If you are fasting, supplicate for the host; if you are not fasting, eat.

Invocation for when you see the first dates of the season

Readاللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي ثَمَرِنَا، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي مَدِينَتِنَا، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي صَاعِنَا، وَبَا…O Allah, bless our fruit for us, bless our town for us, bless our saʿ for us and bless our mudd for us.

What to say when slaughtering or sacrificing an animal

Readبِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ [اللَّهُمَّ مِنْكَ وَلَكَ] اللَّهُمَّ تَقَبَّلْ مِنِّيIn the name of Allah, and Allah is the greatest. O Allah, it is from You and belongs to You, O Allah, accept this from me.
