One year of crisis in Gaza meant twelve months of families searching for food, clean water, shelter and care. It also meant twelve months in which people continued to show up for one another.
From October 2023 to October 2024, Human Development Fund (HDF) worked with donors, partners and teams on the ground to deliver relief across Gaza. This record of HDF’s Gaza relief impact shows what that shared effort made possible during the first year of the response.
Gaza relief impact at a glance
Across the response, HDF recorded 1.5 million people served. That total represents many forms of support, from water and daily meals to medical supplies, temporary shelter and education.

Food and water during a year of crisis
Food and clean water formed a major part of the response. HDF reported:
- 11.1 million liters of water distributed
- 500,000+ hot meals provided
- 339,000+ bags of bread delivered
- 250,000 pounds of flour provided
- 115,000 pounds of fresh vegetables provided
- 1,000+ pounds of fresh Qurbani meat provided
- 40+ food trucks operated to deliver food aid
Each figure points to an ordinary need made difficult by crisis: water to drink, bread for a household and a prepared meal at the end of an uncertain day.
Shelter, health and education
The response also addressed needs that food alone could not meet. During the same reporting period, HDF recorded:
- 100+ shelter tents provided
- 10,000 winter items distributed
- 12 washroom units installed
- 500+ medical kits distributed
- 40,000 units of infant formula provided
- 300+ children educated
Together, these efforts supported families facing displacement while helping children, infants and people in need of medical care receive practical assistance.
The people behind the totals
These numbers help HDF account for what was delivered, but they are not the whole story. Behind each total was a person carrying water home, a family receiving food, a child returning to a lesson or someone finding a measure of shelter.
The first year of this response was possible because donors entrusted their support to HDF and teams and partners carried that responsibility into Gaza. Their combined work turned generosity into supplies and services that people could use.
The responsibility continues
This article records HDF’s response from October 2023 to October 2024. The reporting period has ended, but the need for sustained humanitarian support has not.
Remembering what was achieved matters because it shows what collective action can do. It also reminds us that solidarity is not measured only at an anniversary. It is shown by whether we continue to pay attention, respond and stand with families over time.
