At Digaale IDP Camp, a settlement for internally displaced families in Hargeisa, emergency relief arrived in two forms. Human Development Fund (HDF) teams provided food assistance to 250 people and delivered 50,000 liters of water to families facing food insecurity and water shortages.
The Digaale IDP Camp water assistance and food distribution formed part of HDF’s September 2026 field mission across Somalia. The activities brought immediate supplies into the camp while giving HDF leadership a direct view of how local teams organize relief under difficult conditions.
Food assistance for 250 people
At the distribution site, HDF teams prepared food supplies for families living at the camp. The response served 250 people experiencing food insecurity and difficult living conditions.
The purpose was immediate and practical: place food into households at a time when families needed help meeting a basic daily need. HDF staff organized the supplies on the ground and worked directly with residents during the distribution.

Rows of prepared supplies at the site showed the practical work behind the reported figure. Each distribution required local staff to organize the assistance and connect it with families at the camp.
50,000 liters of water for families
Water trucks also arrived at Digaale IDP Camp during the field visit. HDF delivered 50,000 liters of water to families living in the settlement, where access to safe and reliable water remains an urgent concern.
Emergency water trucking helps meet that need when regular access is limited. At Digaale, HDF staff guided hoses from the trucks as water was delivered within the camp.

HDF CEO Shaykh Abdirahman Kariye joined the team as the trucks arrived and observed the delivery process. Seeing the operation at close range allowed HDF leadership to connect the reported figure of 50,000 liters with the people, equipment and coordination behind it.
Two immediate needs, one coordinated response
Food and water are separate needs, but families often face them at the same time. Bringing both forms of assistance to Digaale allowed the response to address two immediate pressures without treating either one in isolation.
The visit did not end the challenges facing families at the camp. It did show what coordinated local delivery can accomplish: food assistance for 250 people and 50,000 liters of water moved to the place where families needed them.
