Through its Winter Warmth Campaign 2024, Human Development Fund (HDF) reported reaching 47,464 people across 10 countries. Support included blankets, winter clothing, mattresses, heaters, fuel, food parcels and hot meals, with each response shaped around the needs reported in that location.
The total matters because it shows the scale of the campaign. The details matter because they show what donor support became: a blanket carried home, a mattress placed on a cold floor or food available when winter made an already difficult season harder.
What the Winter Warmth Campaign 2024 delivered
The campaign combined several forms of seasonal support:
- Blankets, jackets, children’s pajamas and other winter clothing
- Mattresses, pillows and rugs for families living with limited bedding or insulation
- Heaters, fuel, firewood and coal where heating support was appropriate
- Food parcels and hot meals
- Shelter tents for displaced families, as recorded in HDF’s 2024 account
This was practical assistance for the colder months. It helped families meet immediate needs, but it did not remove the conflict, displacement, poverty or housing insecurity around them.
Winter relief across Gaza and the Middle East
In Gaza, HDF reported reaching 20,000 people in Al-Nasr, Sheikh Radwan, Suhbat Khair Camp and Ayadi Al-Khair Camp. The response included blankets, winter clothing, footwear and hot meals.
In Lebanon, 2,800 people in Beirut, Tripoli and the Bekaa Valley received support that included food baskets, hot meals, blankets and mattresses.
HDF’s account records support for 2,000 people in Yemen’s Marib Governorate. Winter kits included blankets, mattresses, rugs and jackets, alongside children’s pajamas and food parcels.
In Turkiye, HDF reported reaching 5,000 Syrian refugees in Gaziantep, Hatay and Sanliurfa. The response included blankets, winter clothing, heaters, fuel, firewood, coal and food parcels.
In Egypt, 13,060 people in Cairo, Alexandria and Al-Minya received support. HDF’s figures list 1,712 food parcels, 2,700 blankets and 1,800 mattresses.
Winter kits reached South Asia and East Africa
In rural Bangladesh, HDF reported reaching 1,300 people in Lalmonihat, Dinajpur and Rangpur with 800 blankets and 500 children’s jackets.
In Somalia, 300 people in Mogadishu, Baidoa and Hargeisa received 200 blankets and 100 children’s jackets. In Pakistan, HDF reported reaching 1,020 people in Balochistan, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with blankets, mattresses, pillows and plastic rugs.
The original campaign account also mentions support in Jordan and shelter tents for displaced families in Sudan. It does not provide separate reach figures for those two responses.
What 47,464 people reached represents
No single item tells the whole story of a winter response. A blanket can help through a cold night. A mattress can separate a family from a hard floor. A food parcel or hot meal can ease one immediate pressure. Together, those items show how donors, local partners, volunteers and HDF teams turned contributions into practical support.
The campaign did not make winter easy, nor did it resolve the emergencies families were living through. It gave thousands of people useful assistance during a demanding season. That is the clearest measure of this 2024 response.
