United for Gaza: A Community Evening in Princeton

Mustafa Ahmed

Sometimes a community needs more than another update. It needs a room where concern can be shared, questions can be heard and generosity can become action.

The United for Gaza event in Princeton was created in that spirit. On September 7, 2024, Human Development Fund (HDF) joined the Islamic Society of Central Jersey (ISCJ) and other community partners for an evening focused on humanitarian relief for families in Gaza.

Speakers who helped guide the evening

The program brought together scholars, reciters and community leaders:

  • Dr. Omar Suleiman
  • Qari Ismael Essa
  • Imam Safwan Eid
  • Dr. Altaf Husain, MSW, PhD
  • Imam Hamad Chebli

The evening was designed to make room for reflection as well as response. Speakers addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, while attendees had an opportunity to support relief efforts and connect with others who shared the same concern.

A community gathering centered on relief

Tickets were $25 per person, and HDF’s event announcement designated all proceeds for humanitarian efforts in Gaza. The purpose was clear: bring people together, deepen their understanding of the crisis and give them a direct way to help.

The event was presented with ISCJ and other community organizations at the Muslim Center of Greater Princeton. That partnership helped place the gathering within a community already connected through faith, service and responsibility toward others.

No fundraising total or attendance figure was supplied for this article. The significance of the evening should therefore remain in what the event was created to do, rather than in results that have not been documented here.
