Human Development Fund (HDF) has opened a regional office in Jordan, placing our team closer to the families we serve across the Middle East and North Africa. The office launched in Amman on Tuesday, July 28, giving HDF’s work in the region a permanent home and a stronger foundation for the partnerships that carry it.
A regional office in Jordan, and what comes next
The opening ceremony in Amman drew Jordan’s Minister of Social Development, Wafa Bani Mustafa, alongside lawmakers and representatives from international organizations, civil society groups, and volunteer organizations.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Bani Mustafa described civil society organizations, both local and international, as key partners in delivering social protection, education, healthcare, capacity building, and humanitarian response. She pointed to Jordan’s National Social Protection Strategy and the recently approved 2026 Social Protection and Care Fund Regulation as part of a wider shift away from short-term assistance and toward lasting economic and social empowerment. She added that she hoped HDF’s new office would strengthen coordination among partners and help establish Jordan as a base for humanitarian work across the region.
People at the center
HDF Chief Executive Officer Abdirahman Kariye said the fund now works in 33 countries, running programs in social development, education, and healthcare and responding to urgent humanitarian needs. He said HDF’s field programs support vulnerable families, including orphans and persons with disabilities, and aim to help households move from dependency toward stability through long-term partnerships.
That commitment shaped how HDF’s Middle East and North Africa representative in Jordan, Mohammad Shboul, described the fund’s approach: one that places people at the center of development and turns that principle into programs, partnerships, and measurable outcomes.
